Is Playing Ludo Haram?

Since past couple of days, I started playing Ludo star and wrote some jokes regarding ludo just for fun. Couple of people raised question whether playing Ludo is Haram or no; because some scholars around the world had label playing Ludo Haram. I did my own research by listening to different scholars and their logic behind the ruling; some prominent scholars have ruled that playing ludo isn't haram.

Whatever I am writing down below are my thoughts based on the conclusions made after listening to different scholars.

The scholars who have ruled against Ludo state a Hadith that says " Those who play dice games are like washing their hands in the blood of pig ". Indeed this statement from the Prophet PBUH is very terrifying. But remember, be it Quran or Hadith, the focus shouldn't be solely on words, we should also focus on the events surrounding that particular verse or hadith.

The dice games are based purely on luck so playing a dice game itself is not haram but gambling on a dice game is haram. For example roulette; it is also played with dice but there is money involved and the loser loses all of its money based purely on luck.

My guess is that back in the day, people might have used dice games for trade. For example trade of Servants or even women or someone's precious belonging. That is why Prophet PBUH must have said that Hadith.

Remember, our beautiful religion is based on facts and logics. There is no one ruling that doesn't have any logic; every ruling is for our own good. Now ask yourself, what harm does playing ludo does? We play it just for time pass and without any gambling involved.

Now if someone places bet on ludo that the winner will get the loser's car or house etc., then it will become Haram. Ludo won't be haram but the betting will be haram.

So my conclusion is that ludo is not haram as far as no betting is involved. The query was raised that the betting is placed on Ludo star to play a game; coins are involved and loser loses all the coins. But these coins aren't real, you don't purchase them, even if you lose, you are physically losing nothing. And almost every digital game is based on such system where u require coins to play but those are just symbolic coins which the application itself gives you everyday for free.

But also keep in mind that be it ludo or any other activity; if you are wasting too much time and are even neglecting the basic duties of Islam- such as Namaz - then you are doing a sin; your sin is not ludo but your negligence is.

Do your own research just like you do for exams. Don't stick to one source, gather information from different sources and use your own thinking behind the logics explained.
